Arts Education

The focus of the Arts Education Department is art, music, and drama.

  • It has been proven that early exposure to visual art, music, or drama promotes activity in the brain.
  • Art helps students understand other subjects much more clearly—from math and science, to language arts and geography.
  • Art nurtures inventiveness as it engages students in a process that aids in the development of self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation.
  • Participating in art activities helps students to gain the tools necessary for understanding human experience, adapting to and respecting others’ ways of working and thinking, developing creative problem-solving skills, and communicating thoughts and ideas in a variety of ways.
  • The Visual Arts provide students with hands-on experience in drawing, painting, design, sculpture, photography, digital imaging, and more. These experiences promote self- expression, creative problem solving, critical thinking, craftsmanship, foster artistic skills and encourage creative thinking, and overall visual literacy as students learn through planning, creating, presenting, and responding to art. Participation in the Visual Arts connects students to the larger world and enhances their success in college, career, and life readiness.
