Sustainability

Sustainability Club at GSMS is preparing to serve our community on Arbor Day at the Gulf Coast Eco Center from 8:30-11:30. We’ll be loading trees, teaching visitors about the important ecosystem roles of oysters, and sharing the good work that Mobile BayKeepers are doing to restore oysters in Mobile Bay.

The Sustainability Club’s first adventure at Lake Shelby was the perfect mix of fun and learning. They explored the waterways, discovered local wildlife, and strengthened their connection to both the environment and each other. What an amazing experience!

Club Description:

Our Sustainability Club encourages students to explore and enjoy the outdoors through activities like biking, hiking, kayaking, and camping. By experiencing nature firsthand, we hope students will feel inspired to protect and care for the environment. In addition to outdoor adventures, our club promotes environmental awareness through educational workshops, guest speakers, and community clean-up events. We actively participate in school-wide recycling programs and advocate for sustainable practices on campus, such as reducing single-use plastics and conserving energy. Our goal is to foster a deep connection between students and the natural world, empowering them to become environmentally responsible leaders who make a positive impact both locally and globally.
